Announcing Blackpool Art Carbooty – Winter Gardens 31st October 2015

Standard

Wewioraprojects are delighted to announce our Blackpool Art Carbooty programme, taking place this October Halloween weekend, Saturday 31st October 2015 at the beautiful Winter Gardens venue. This is the first time the Northern Art Carbooty/ Carbooty model has ventured outside of Manchester/ Salford and we have been working in partnership with Blackpool artist and producer Squirrel & Tiffin (Linzi Cason) to realise this project.

There are some regular Northern Art Carbooty artists making an appearance including Dave Draws (David Gee) and the Carbooty pimp my Yaris, David’s Northern Art Carbooty vehicle based commission. Regular names Holly’s Pictures, Makers Dozen and Taneesha Ahmed will be joining us and Stanley Chow will be selling limited edition new Blackpool inspired prints!  We are excited to be working with new Blackpool based artists such as Aunty Social, Richard Jon Photography, Lisa Wigham and Anne Carragher as well as North West wide artists Bethany Cassidy and galleries such as Paper Gallery.

Our major live art commission this year focuses on a first time collaboration between Blackpool’s Harry Clayton Wright, and Manchester based Richard Shields.

The Leftcoast supported commission ‘Pier to Pier’ #Bigthings, sets the scene for the full day programme, and animates our Winter Garden venue throughout the day.

Drawing on everything from British folklore to seaside glam, celebrity and colourful seaside characters, this live performance and installation will pay homage to the artists’ own interpretations of their memories and experience of Blackpool, as both child and adult, in particular playing with size and scale in order to distort our perceptions and create a sense of wonderment.

With still more artists to be announced for the event, and its delivery scheduled on one of the busiest weekends of the Blackpool illuminations programme, it looks set to be full on affair of art, design and live performance!
