After meeting with Beth for her last week in residence at Glasgow Women’s Library, we discussed her research leading to the creation of a new video work based on the archives, writing and collections within the library. Beth will expand upon her original research into questioning the authorship and ownership of written language, specifically of that of the female voice in relation to ‘Man’s language’ and with it exposing the ‘juicy facts’ and ‘tall tales’ around accepting archival and the written word as truth. With fragments and captions directly drawn from library material as diverse as the early 1900’s women’s suffrage newspaper ‘Jus Suffragii’ to sexual health pamphlets from the 50’s and Naomi Wolf’s exposure of unethical ingredients found in face creams, expect to see the concept of a ‘documentary’ turned completely on its head.
